Bennett: Expanded on-demand generation bolsters reliability, affordability, competitiveness
The following can be attributed to Tony Bennett, president and CEO of the Texas Association of Manufacturers:
Electricity issues are a top priority for Texas manufacturers, and we applaud the work of the Texas legislature and the Public Utility Commission (PUC) and staff to bolster grid reliability and expand dispatchable generation in our growing state. The Texas Energy Fund (TEF), created by lawmakers and approved by voters last fall, is an innovative tool designed to encourage investments in on-demand generation projects that will provide a diverse mix of reliable generation to keep Texas competitive. Today, we were pleased to learn that the PUC has recommended a portfolio of 17 projects that will proceed to due diligence through the Texas Energy Fund’s In-ERCOT Generation Loan program. These projects represent 9,781 MW in potential new generation and $5.38 billion in requested TEF loaned funds. We are eager to see these projects break ground and are confident that the Commission will proceed in such manner to ensure that the Fund is used efficiently to deliver the reliable power Texas needs to maintain its top spot as the best place to do business, grow jobs and strengthen communities.
